Composition

This weekend, I want to go and photograph some shots for assignments two and three; foreground to background and foreground vs background. I thought that doing some research into compositional techniques would give me a better insight in how to produce some good quality images which look visually pleasing.

Rule of Thirds Diagram
The "Rule of Thirds" is something I am familiar of because of my previous work in photography. When a subject is placed on one of the overlapping third lines, they are deemed to be a better point of interested compared to if they were placed anywhere else in the shot.

Hellen Van Meene has used the rule of thirds effectively, and in turn, has made the shot more visually pleasing. In my eyes, subjects placed on the sides of a photograph compared to in the middle look better than central. However, on some photographs, central composition looks better.

The chosen central composition makes this photograph work, but that is somewhat due to the leading lines used in the room. Leading lines draw our line of sight to a certain area of the photograph, making us naturally drawn to the girl central of the shot. Without these leading lines however, I would think the subject would look better on a third line, to make the photograph more exciting.
