So today we experimented with some different types of lighting to see what effect they would give on a subject!
Here, we used direct light onto the subject so it had a strong, long shadow (I'm a poet and I didn't know it!). This also made one side of the subjects face really bright whilst the other side was dark.
In this shot, we used a diffuser to make the subject and shadow softer. Using a diffuser would be something I would use in all of my photo shoot, as I like the effect of the softened light in the photograph, as I think that when photographing a product or person, the lighting should not be too harsh.
In this shot, we used a reflector to bounce the light back onto the subject. I think this worked really well in reflecting the light back onto the subject to make the shadows less intense.
We were then given the task of photographing a glass object rather than a non-transparent one, which was so much harder! Here, we used direct light, which obviously didn't give as strong of a shadow as the wooden mannequin because of the transparency.
We then again used a diffuser to limit the harshness of the shadows and make the bottle stand out more.
A reflector was then used, but this did not have the same effect because of the transparency of the bottle!
... So we used an absorber! This absorbed some of the unnecessary light that was bouncing around and made the right hand side of the bottle slightly darker!
We then decided to experiment with back lighting only, because of the transparency of the bottle. This worked really well and has inspired me to create an advert for the brand in my own time!
